The Spoken Word | Genesis 1
"In the Beginning—Light Broke In"
In the beginning… Before clocks clicked, Before suns spun, Before your first breath found your lungs…
There was God. No backdrop. No soundtrack. No "Once upon a time." Just... I AM.
And He spoke— Not with a whisper, Not with a question, But with a Word that tore the silence in two:
"Let there be light."
And just like that, Light broke in. It didn't crawl in. Didn't stumble. It exploded—ripping darkness from the canvas like a curtain torn down.
Day was born. Night learned its name. And the clock of creation began to tick.
He drew borders where chaos once ruled— Sky above. Waters below. Land rising like a song no one had ever heard before.
"Let there be…" Became a rhythm. A heartbeat. A poetry of planets. A melody of oceans and oak trees and galaxies you've never even seen.
The sun blazed. The moon reflected. Stars winked like notes in a night song.
And then… He got closer.
He reached into dust—and breathed. Formed a shape in the mud and filled it with wind. Not just lungs, but life. Not just breath, but being.
"In Our image…" He said. "Let them reflect Me."
And suddenly, humanity blinked. Stood. Spoke. Loved. Laughed. Walked.
And it was good. All of it.
But when He looked at that man— And that woman— When He saw the breath of Heaven in flesh and bone… He didn't just say "good."
He said, "Very good."
Questions for the Soul
Not to answer with your mouth. But to wrestle with your heart.
• What does it mean that your beginning started with God's breath?
• If God created light with a word, what could He speak into your darkness right now?
• Are you living as someone made in His image, or just surviving as someone shaped by the world?
• What would it look like to see all creation—not just as scenery, but as a song still singing His name?
