The Simple Word | Isaiah 53 The Suffering Servant

Who has believed what we’ve been told? To whom has the Lord’s arm been unrolled? He grew like a tender shoot from the ground, No beauty or majesty in Him was found.

Despised and rejected, a man of pain, He carried our sorrows, bore our shame. We thought Him punished, struck by God’s hand, But He was wounded for sins of the land.

Our punishment fell on Him to restore, By His stripes, we’re healed evermore. We, like sheep, have wandered away, But the Lord laid on Him our sins to stay.

Silent before His accusers’ cries, Like a lamb to slaughter, He did not rise. He was cut off from the land of the living, Stricken for sin, His life was forgiving.

Though He had done no wrong, none could claim, He was buried among the wicked in shame. Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush Him so, To make His life an offering below.

After His anguish, He’ll see the light, By His knowledge, many made right. He’ll bear their sins, intercede for the lost, Bringing redemption through the ultimate cost.
